Pakistan, Hungary eye deeper economic ties as 60 Years of diplomacy marked

Dar, Szijjarto agree on investment protection, direct flights, and visa facilitation during UNGA meeting

Pakistan and Hungary on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations as the two countries celebrated the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties. The understanding was reached during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and his Hungarian counterpart Peter Szijjarto on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session.

Both sides expressed determination to finalise agreements on the protection of mutual investments and cooperation in civil aviation. They also agreed to expedite the launch of direct flight operations between Pakistan and Hungary, and discussed the conclusion of a visa abolition arrangement for diplomatic and official passport holders.

Dar conveyed Pakistan’s strong desire to broaden trade and investment linkages with Hungary and briefed Szijjarto on steps being taken by Islamabad to facilitate Hungarian companies. The Hungarian foreign minister, in turn, thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Dar for their personal support in encouraging Hungarian investors to enter Pakistan’s market.

Educational collaboration was also highlighted in the meeting. Dar expressed gratitude for Hungary’s offer of 400 scholarships to Pakistani students, while Szijjarto assured that Budapest would continue to provide learning opportunities for Pakistani youth.

In addition to economic and educational ties, the two ministers also discussed regional and international peace and security issues.
