Punjab approves Rs96 billion for 20 development schemes across various sectors

Provincial Development Working Party approves major projects in public buildings, local government, and healthcare sectors to enhance infrastructure and services

The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has approved 20 development schemes worth Rs96 billion for the current fiscal year. The projects span the Public Buildings, Local Government, and Social Health & Medical Education (SHC&ME) sectors.

The meeting, chaired by Planning and Development (P&D) Board Chairman Dr. Naeem Rauf, endorsed key schemes, including the construction of new court blocks at the Lahore High Court’s old administration block with a revised estimated cost of Rs6.727 billion. 

Additionally, the development of Bachelor Accommodation and a Judicial Rest House at Dharampura, Lahore, was approved at an estimated cost of Rs3.88 billion. A parking management system and allied facilities at the MPA Hostel in Phase-II, Lahore, were also approved, with an allocation of Rs1.144 billion.

In the local government sector, the PDWP approved the construction of a new General Bus Stand in Sialkot with a cost of Rs700 million and the establishment of two landfill sites in Punjab at Rs4.351 billion. 

A large-scale development programme, covering multiple cities including Bhera, Mianwali, and Sahiwal, was approved for improvement of infrastructure, including sewerage, stormwater drainage, street pavements, and allied services, with a total cost of Rs73 billion.

The healthcare sector also saw significant investments, including the extension of child healthcare facilities in Southern Punjab and the expansion of pediatric sub-specialties services at the Children’s Hospital in Multan, with an estimated cost of Rs6.47 billion.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from the P&D Board, including Secretary Rafaqat Ali, and various other board members.
