Pakistan Customs revises values for ammunition imports from China, Turkey

The Directorate General of Customs Valuation in Karachi has revised customs values for ammunition imports from China and Turkey to ensure the accurate assessment of duties and taxes. The revised values will apply to various categories of ammunition and will be used for the assessment of duties and taxes.

The revision follows a request from M/s Mehran Arms Company regarding the customs values for ammunition cartridges of caliber 5.56. In response, the Directorate initiated a review process under Section 25A of the Customs Act, 1969, to determine the appropriate customs values for the imported ammunition.

A meeting was held with stakeholders, including M/s Mehran Arms Company, to discuss the issue. The stakeholders were asked to submit relevant import documents to support their claims, and after a thorough review of data from the past 90 days, a market inquiry was conducted.

Various valuation methods were applied in line with the Customs Act, including the transaction value method, identical goods value method, and similar goods value method. However, due to gaps in the available information and inconsistencies in market prices, none of these methods were deemed fully applicable.

The final determination of the customs values was made under Section 25(9) of the Customs Act, based on the available market data and the inability to apply other valuation methods. The ruling emphasizes the importance of accurate and consistent customs value assessment to ensure proper duty and tax collection on imported goods.
