Sindh governor sets aside Provincial Ombudsman order against K-Electric CEO

K-Electric Limited has informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange that the Governor of Sindh has set aside an order issued by the Provincial Ombudsman, Sindh, against the company’s chief executive officer in a workplace harassment case.

In a disclosure on Tuesday, the power utility said the decision was issued by the Governor of Sindh under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010, after hearing arguments from the concerned parties and reviewing the available record.

“We would like to inform that the Hon’ble Governor of Sindh, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 9 of the Protection against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 (as amended from time to time), after hearing the arguments of the concerned parties and reviewing the relevant records, has issued the decision and has set aside the impugned Order passed by the Provincial Ombudsman, Sindh, dated July 31, 2025,” read the KE’s notice sent to the local bourse.

The matter stems from an order passed by the Provincial Ombudsman on July 31, 2025, in a complaint filed by a former employee of K-Electric against two employees and a former director of the company. The order had also held K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Syed Moonis Alvi responsible, directing his removal from office and imposing a fine of Rs2.5 million.

Following the ombudsman’s decision, Alvi challenged the order before the Sindh High Court, arguing that it was not aligned with the facts of the case. The High Court subsequently suspended the operation of the impugned order, granting interim relief to the CEO pending further proceedings.

K-Electric said that Alvi had also filed a representation before the Governor of Sindh, the designated appellate forum for challenging orders issued by the Provincial Ombudsman under the law.

According to the disclosure, the Governor has now allowed the appeal and formally set aside the Provincial Ombudsman’s order dated July 31, 2025.

The company said the disclosure was being made in continuation of its earlier filing dated August 1, 2025, in compliance with the Securities Act, 2015 and the Pakistan Stock Exchange rule book.
