International flights from Pakistan drop nearly 50% in early March amid Iran conflict disruptions
Departures fall from 1,127 to 572 in first 10 days; airspace open but Gulf restrictions hit routes

Pakistan’s international aviation activity declined sharply in early March 2026, with outbound flights falling by nearly half compared to the previous month due to disruptions linked to the Iran conflict. Data shows international departures dropped from 1,127 flights during February 1–10 to 572 in the same period of March, reflecting a 49.3% decline within weeks.
Aviation authorities said Pakistan’s airspace remains fully open, but disruptions in Gulf and Middle Eastern airspace have led to cancellations and reduced traffic on key international routes.
Officials noted that many outbound flights rely on transit hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah and Riyadh, making Pakistan’s aviation network sensitive to regional airspace restrictions.
Airlines have adjusted operations by cancelling flights, reducing frequencies and rerouting aircraft to avoid affected zones, resulting in fewer departures.
Data also indicates a shift in travel patterns, with flight activity increasingly concentrated on Saudi routes, particularly Jeddah and Riyadh, while overall travel volumes declined.
The drop in departures comes as airlines, airports and service providers face lower passenger volumes and operational challenges.
The disruption is expected to affect sectors linked to aviation, including tourism, trade and remittances, given the importance of Gulf routes for Pakistan’s external connectivity.
Authorities said coordination is ongoing with airlines to manage operations and facilitate recovery, including limited repatriation flights.
Officials added that flight schedules at airports continue to operate, though international traffic remains below normal levels as the situation evolves.
