Ufone flags service disruptions as power cuts intensify

ISLAMABAD: Ufone has warned that increasing loadshedding and frequent power outages across the country are affecting telecom service delivery and may lead to temporary disruptions for its customers.

According to the company’s spokesperson, the growing frequency and duration of electricity shutdowns are directly impacting telecom infrastructure performance, making it challenging to maintain uninterrupted connectivity for users.

The spokesperson said that in urban areas, most of Ufone’s telecom infrastructure is equipped with backup battery systems designed to ensure continuity during short power failures. However, these systems are under significant strain due to repeated outages.

He explained that battery banks require at least three hours of uninterrupted electricity to fully recharge, but continuous and intermittent power cuts are preventing proper charging cycles. As a result, the overall backup capacity has declined.

“The frequent interruptions in power supply are affecting the charging process and reducing the effectiveness of our backup systems,” the spokesperson said.

Ufone further stated that due to these constraints, customers may experience service degradation or intermittent disruptions in certain areas during peak loadshedding hours.

The company added that it expects services to normalize once the electricity supply stabilizes and load management improves.

As power outages continue to intensify across the country, daily life and business operations are facing growing disruption. Extended and frequent load shedding has not only strained household routines but is also impacting essential services, including telecom networks, banking operations, and small businesses that rely on uninterrupted electricity. The situation has deepened public inconvenience, particularly during peak hours, as consumers contend with heat, connectivity issues, and rising operational costs, underscoring the widening challenges posed by the ongoing energy shortfall.

The telecom sector, in particular, is under mounting pressure as repeated power cuts are affecting cell site operations and backup systems. Operators are increasingly relying on battery and generator backups, but continuous outages are reducing their efficiency, leading to weak signals, call drops, and intermittent internet services in several areas.
