PM approves restructuring of P3A to accelerate public-private partnership projects

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has given in-principle approval to restructure the Public-Private Partnership Authority (P3A) to improve efficiency and speed up development projects through public-private partnerships.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting on development planning, where it was agreed that the authority would be placed under the Privatization Division to align its operations with current requirements.

Under the revised framework, the Public-Private Partnership Authority will be overseen by the Cabinet Committee on Privatization and the Privatization Division.

The prime minister directed ministries and departments to strengthen their capacity to initiate and manage projects under public-private partnerships.

He also instructed that such projects be incorporated into the Key Performance Indicators of ministries and departments to improve accountability and execution.

Officials briefed the meeting on international public-private partnership models and the features of the proposed system.

The prime minister said the restructuring aims to improve transparency and efficiency in the public-private partnership framework and directed that implementation of the new system be expedited.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers and senior officials, including those overseeing finance, planning, law, economic affairs and climate change.
