Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presents Rs121.74 billion supplementary budget

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has presented a supplementary budget of Rs121.74 billion to meet additional spending requirements across current and development expenditures.

According to budget documents, current expenditure for the financial year 2026-27 was initially estimated at Rs1,415 billion but has now been increased to Rs1,433 billion due to additional requirements in various sectors.

Under current expenditure, the government has earmarked an additional Rs1.38 billion for the Tribal Affairs Department, Rs1.29 billion for local government, Rs7.5 billion for local bodies and Rs7.35 billion for relief activities.

The documents said Rs3 billion has been allocated for the merged districts and Rs1.46 billion for the transport sector.

The development budget, initially set at Rs547 billion, has been increased to Rs608 billion through the supplementary budget. Budget documents put the total increase in development expenditure at Rs 71.73 billion.

To improve law and order, the provincial government has allocated an additional Rs7.1 billion for the purchase of armoured vehicles for the police.

The government has also released an additional Rs40.43 billion for the Peshawar Revitalisation Project to improve infrastructure and urban facilities in the provincial capital.

Additional funds have been allocated for education, irrigation and energy. The documents said Rs1.95 billion will be spent on primary and secondary education, while Rs2.97 billion has been earmarked for irrigation and energy projects.

Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi said the supplementary budget was aimed at public welfare, timely completion of development projects, improvement of law and order and provision of basic facilities.

He said the allocations would help accelerate development across the province.
