Pakistan Petroleum Limited has started the execution phase of the Barite, Lead and Zinc project after signing a project management consultancy contract with M/s. DMT, Germany, according to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.
The company said the contract signing marked the next stage in the development of the BLZ project, which it described as one of Pakistan’s major large-scale open-pit mining projects.
PPL said the latest development follows its earlier letter on April 9, 2025, regarding the execution of Amendment No. 1 to the Operating Agreement dated November 15, 2004 for the Barytes Project with the Government of Balochistan.
The project is being pursued under a joint venture arrangement between the parties for the Baryte, Lead and Zinc project.
According to the notice, M/s. DMT, Germany has been appointed as project management consultant to support the execution phase of the project.
PPL said the appointment reflected the company’s focus on international standards, technical expertise and efficient project delivery.
The company said the BLZ project is expected to support economic activity in the region and strengthen Pakistan’s mining sector at the national level.
It added that the project would help increase production and export of barite, lead and zinc, contributing to Pakistan’s mineral exports and the development of the country’s mineral resources.
