The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department in Multan Division exceeded its annual revenue target for fiscal year 2025-26, collecting more than Rs5.37 billion against a target of Rs5.15 billion to achieve an overall recovery rate of 104 percent.

The annual performance report, released by Deputy Director (Administration) and departmental spokesperson Khalid Hussain Qasuri, credited the result to coordinated efforts by Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs), inspectors and field staff across the division's four districts.

Motor Vehicle Tax remained the department's largest source of revenue, with collections reaching Rs3.38 billion against a target of Rs2.75 billion, translating into a recovery rate of 123 percent.

Excise Duty also surpassed its target, generating Rs150 million compared with the assigned target of Rs122.5 million to post a recovery rate of 122 percent.

Property Tax collections stood at Rs1.64 billion, achieving 83 percent of the Rs1.97 billion target, while Luxury House Tax generated Rs71 million, or 96 percent of the targeted Rs74 million.

Professional Tax brought in Rs109 million against a target of Rs167 million, achieving 65 percent recovery, while Highway Tax collections totalled Rs54.2 million, representing 68 percent of the Rs79 million target.

Among the four districts, Vehari and Khanewal recorded the strongest performance, each achieving 107 percent recovery. Multan followed with 104 percent, while Lodhran reached 103 percent.

The report said the revenue campaign was conducted under the guidance of Director General Excise and Taxation Punjab Umar Sher Chattha and the supervision of Director Excise and Taxation Multan Division Iftikhar Ahmed Bhalli.

Commenting on the performance, Bhalli attributed the achievement to the commitment of departmental staff and increasing taxpayer confidence, particularly among the business community, in the Punjab government's taxpayer-friendly policies.

He said digital reforms introduced by the department had improved transparency in tax assessment, simplified payment procedures and strengthened public confidence in the taxation system.

The director said the department would continue introducing citizen-focused initiatives during the new fiscal year while directing officers to maintain professional conduct and deal courteously with taxpayers.

At the same time, he warned that strict legal action against tax defaulters would continue to discourage tax evasion and improve revenue collection, urging traders and citizens to clear outstanding tax liabilities to support better public service delivery.
