Senate panel told customs officials involved in 398kg silver theft

Customs officials informed a Senate sub-committee on Monday that officials were allegedly involved in the theft of 398 kilograms of silver.

As per a news report, the case was taken up during a meeting of the sub-committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control, chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro.

Customs officials told lawmakers that the silver was being transported from Quetta by FBR officials when it went missing.

They said the FIA had arrested those allegedly responsible and recovered a significant portion of the stolen silver.

According to officials, the silver was recovered from a collector who was in charge of the consignment. They also said two FBR inspectors and one private individual were allegedly involved in the case.

The committee was told that the FIA investigation into the matter was ongoing.
