Three jailed over illegal transfer of Bahria Town funds abroad
Retired army officer, Bahria Town executive and hawala operator each receive one-year sentence and Rs500,000 fine

An Islamabad court has sentenced three men, including a retired army officer and a senior Bahria Town official, to one year in prison each for illegally transferring funds abroad in connection with Bahria Town projects, Dawn reported.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Nasaruminallah Baloch announced the verdict after hearing final arguments from the prosecution and defence.
Those convicted are retired Colonel Khalilur Rehman, Vice Chief Executive of Bahria Town, hawala operator Imran Kaka and property dealer Mushtaq Ahmed. The court also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on each convict.
According to the prosecution, the three men violated the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act by moving money overseas through unauthorised channels instead of formal banking mechanisms.
The court found them guilty of facilitating illegal foreign exchange transfers for various Bahria Town projects.
