Petrol pump owners reject proposed daily fuel pricing plan, warn of nationwide protest
Pump Owners Association seeks monthly price revisions, saying frequent adjustments expose retailers to inventory losses and disrupt financial planning

ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association (APPPOA) has opposed the reported proposal to introduce daily petroleum price revisions, warning that the move could further destabilise the retail fuel business and trigger nationwide protests if stakeholders’ concerns are ignored.
In a statement, the association expressed concern over reports that the government was considering shifting from the existing weekly fuel price adjustment mechanism to daily revisions.
The statement was issued by Nauman Ali Butt, Vice Chairman of the All Pakistan Petroleum Pump Owners Association.
The association rejected the proposed system, saying daily price changes were unacceptable to petrol pump owners. It said even the current weekly pricing regime had created operational and financial difficulties for fuel retailers.
According to the association, frequent price revisions have complicated stock management, disrupted financial planning and exposed pump operators to inventory losses and unpredictable market conditions. It warned that daily adjustments would intensify these problems.
The association also criticised the government for reportedly considering the proposal without consulting key stakeholders, particularly petrol pump owners. It said any major policy affecting the downstream petroleum sector should be developed after consultation with all relevant parties.
APPPOA urged the government to withdraw the daily pricing proposal and formulate a practical policy in consultation with petroleum retailers.
It also proposed replacing the current framework with monthly fuel price revisions, arguing that less frequent adjustments would provide greater business certainty, improve inventory management and support the financial stability of retailers.
The association warned that it would announce its future course of action if its concerns were not addressed, indicating the possibility of protests or other industry-wide measures.
