Flour shortage hits Rawalpindi, Islamabad after wheat quota suspension

Flour supplies tightened in Rawalpindi and Islamabad after the Punjab Food Department suspended wheat quota permits for mills in the federal capital and Rawalpindi Division.

The move halted milling operations and pushed roti prices from Rs17 to Rs25, while naan prices also increased.

The Pakistan Flour Mills Association and Punjab Flour Mills Association said permits covering around 8,000 tonnes of wheat had been cancelled.

The associations demanded immediate restoration of the quota and removal of restrictions on wheat transportation.

They warned that flour mills across Punjab could shut down in solidarity if the decision was not reversed, and urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to intervene.
