Govt raises petrol by Rs4.93, diesel by Rs7.15 per litre

ISLAMABAD: The government on Tuesday increased the ex-depot price of petrol by Rs4.93 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs7.15 per litre for one day, raising their prices to Rs320.73 and Rs367.21 per litre, respectively.

The revised rates will remain applicable only on July 22, 2026.

The increase comes under the Shehbaz government's newly introduced daily petroleum pricing mechanism, replacing the longstanding fortnightly review system.

Under the new regime, domestic fuel prices will be adjusted daily in line with fluctuations in international oil prices and the exchange rate.

Announcing the revision, the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) said in a statement: "Based on the revised petroleum pricing mechanism issued by the Federal Government, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products for July 22, 2026."

According to the notification, the ex-depot price of high-speed diesel has been increased from Rs360.06 to Rs367.21 per litre, while the price of motor spirit (petrol) has risen from Rs315.80 to Rs320.73 per litre.

The revised prices replace the rates notified a day earlier under the government's daily fuel pricing system.

The latest increase is expected to raise fuel costs for motorists and motorcycle users, while the higher diesel price may increase transportation and logistics expenses.

As HSD is widely used in trucks, buses, agricultural machinery, tube wells and freight operations, the increase could also contribute to higher freight charges and eventually push up the prices of essential commodities.

The government said the daily pricing mechanism is intended to ensure that changes in international oil prices are reflected more promptly in domestic fuel prices while improving transparency in the petroleum pricing process.
