Uber will be launching its services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi within a week, media sources have reported. The exact day of the launch has not been revealed as final preparations for the launch are underway.
The launch of Uber means that Careem will now be facing competition. This may lead to offers and discounts, already in place in Lahore and Karachi, being extended to the twin cities.
Careem has been operational in Islamabad, Rawalpindi for some time now. Being the only ride-hailing service available in the twin cities, the majority of discounts and promotions were not available in Islamabad.
Safee Shah, General Manager for Uber in Pakistan in conversation with the media stated that the company has major plans in store for 2017.  Moreover, Uber’s chief in Pakistan confirmed that his company is all set to expand to a maximum number of tier-1 and tier-2 cities before the year end.
He went on to add that the company has received a positive response from the Pakistani market which has by far superseded the management’s calculations and expectations.
Uber has further stated that the company has already established a good fleet for Islamabad and Rawalpindi and the service is likely to expand in the coming times. It is likely that Uber will be launching a promotion in the twin cities, the details of which are yet to be finalised and disclosed.
