Nintendo said Wednesday it sold more than 3.5 million units of its new Switch 2 console in the first four days after launch, making it the company’s fastest-selling gaming device to date.
The Switch 2 went on sale June 5 and includes a larger screen and better graphics than the original model. The design is similar to the first version, which launched in 2017 and has sold 152 million units.
Nintendo said in May it expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 units by the end of the current financial year in March.
“Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go,” said Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser in a statement.
The company’s original Switch platform gained popularity with games like “The Legend of Zelda” and “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” which became a hit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
