Meta's Instagram outage hits thousands of users in the U.S.

Instagram services returned to normal on Wednesday after an outage affected thousands of users in the United States and some in India, according to Downdetector.

The platform reported that complaints peaked earlier in the day with 16,747 users in the U.S. experiencing problems. By 12:10 p.m. ET, the number had dropped to 849, showing that the disruption had eased.

Most of the reports, about 67%, were related to the app not working, while 26% of users faced issues with the feed, and 6% had trouble logging in.

In India, Downdetector showed that around 550 users reported problems with Instagram at 9:05 p.m. IST. That number fell to 28 by 10:50 p.m., indicating that services had resumed.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has not provided any official explanation for the outage or information about how it was resolved.

Downdetector tracks real-time service issues using user-submitted data. Instagram has experienced similar service disruptions in the past.

The outage gained attention on other platforms, with users sharing posts about the disruption.
