ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved Rs3 billion in financial assistance for areas of Gilgit-Baltistan affected by recent floods.
The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, also considered measures to strengthen fiscal discipline, clear pending dues in the energy sector, and support strategic infrastructure projects.
The flood relief proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and States and Frontier Regions, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his recent visit to the affected region.
According to a finance ministry statement, the ECC approved the release of funds to provide tents, medicines, food, and other essential supplies, as well as to support reconstruction and early recovery for communities impacted by the floods.
Officials attending the meeting included Federal Ministers for Power, Petroleum, and National Food Security, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Industries and Production, federal secretaries, regulatory representatives, and senior officials from relevant ministries and divisions.
