Saleem Chatta, and Faiz Bhatti, both roommates at the New Hostel, Government College, Lahore, both spent Monday going through Instagram pages.

Chatta and Bhatti both took their CSS exams two years ago, with only the latter clearing the exams and being assigned to the Inland Revenue Service.

“After my CTP (Combined Training Program), I went over to the specialised Income Tax Academy,” said Bhatti, while speaking to Profit. “and then I was assigned to be part of the new 40-member unit that monitors weddings on Instagram to check for outrageous displays of wealth that don’t track with these individuals’ declared income and assets.”

“I just start when I reach work and try to note down as much as I can, scanning from the kind of jewellery that is on display, to the clothes, to the other stuff.”

His college roommate, when contacted, said his career plans were still a work in progress.

“Yeah, I couldn’t clear my exams, and am still figuring things out. I’m planning on shifting to Canada and trying my luck there, to do some construction management work up north,” said Saleem Chatta. “But till the paperwork from my immigration guy comes through, I just spend my time chilling, scrolling through Instagram.”

“There’s lots of wedding photo dumps on my feed. Really pretty girls, and damn are those weddings lavish; I get a kick out of seeing all of that money being splurged, haha.”

“Though I do feel a little bad. Here I am, wasting my time, while my buddy Faiz is doing something worthwhile.”
