The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, began on Wednesday after a series of postponements, with participants set to review economic targets and the annual development plan, Radio Pakistan reported.
Chief ministers from all four provinces are attending the meeting of the NEC, Pakistan’s highest constitutional body for economic planning and coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
The meeting was originally scheduled for May 22 but was postponed and rescheduled for June 3. It was later deferred again before finally taking place on Wednesday.
The session comes as the government continues consultations on the federal budget for 2026-27.
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the government was likely to present the federal budget for FY2026-27 in parliament on June 12.
