Tomato prices drop 23.30% and liquefied petroleum gas falls 15.12%, while potatoes rise 3.94%, chicken 3.70% and onions 3.54%

Weekly inflation falls 0.45%, but remains 11.94% higher year-on-year

Pakistan’s weekly inflation fell by 0.45% in the seven days ended July 9, 2026, as lower prices of tomatoes and liquefied petroleum gas offset increases in potatoes, chicken, onions and wheat flour.

Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed that the Sensitive Price Indicator stood 11.94% higher compared with the corresponding week of last year.

Tomato prices recorded the largest weekly decline of 23.30%, followed by liquefied petroleum gas at 15.12%. Pulse moong became 2.15% cheaper, while petrol and high-speed diesel prices declined by 0.69% and 0.63%, respectively.

Prices of pulse masoor fell by 0.52%, sugar by 0.07% and mustard oil by 0.06%.

In contrast, potato prices rose by 3.94%, chicken by 3.70%, onions by 3.54%, and wheat flour by 1.61%. Eggs became 0.81% more expensive, while beef, cooked daal, fresh milk, and washing soap also recorded increases.

Of the 51 items monitored across 50 markets in 17 cities, prices of 22 items increased, eight declined, and 21 remained unchanged.

The weekly inflation rate fell across all expenditure groups. The largest decline of 0.55% was recorded for the highest consumption group, while the lowest group saw a decrease of 0.36%.

On a year-on-year basis, tomato prices increased by 129.01%, onions by 76.34% and wheat flour by 71.22%.

Electricity charges for the lowest consumption group were 49.14% higher than a year earlier, while gas charges rose by 29.85% and liquefied petroleum gas by 25.51%.

Mutton prices increased by 16.36%, chilli powder by 15.20% and beef by 13.56%.

Meanwhile, potato prices were 35.89% lower than a year ago. Pulse gram declined by 22.23%, chicken by 21.32% and sugar by 20.98%.

The year-on-year inflation rate was highest at 14.46% for households spending between Rs17,733 and Rs22,888 per month. The lowest rate of 10.10% was recorded for the highest expenditure group.
