100 electric buses en route to Punjab; fares set at Rs20

Eco-friendly transit expansion aims for sustainable urban mobility

LAHORE: One hundred modern electric buses have departed from Shanghai Seaport for Pakistan, with expected arrival in Punjab in the coming weeks. This is part of a larger effort to introduce electric buses across the province.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced that another batch of electric buses will arrive shortly, with the goal of having these buses operational in all districts by December. The fare for these buses will be Rs20, offering an affordable and eco-friendly transportation option for residents.

Earlier this year, Lahore received 11 electric buses as part of a pilot phase, with a total of 27 buses now in operation. The buses, which each carry up to 60 passengers, are charged at a dedicated facility in Lahore’s Green Town.

In addition to Lahore, electric bus services are also planned for Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, further expanding sustainable transportation options across the province.
