Unity Foods reports Rs1.63 billion net profit for FY25, reversing previous year’s loss

Improved margins and higher other income drive strong performance in a challenging market

Unity Foods Limited (PSX: UNITY) has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 1.63 billion for the year ended June 30, 2025 (FY25), a significant turnaround from a net loss of Rs 3.52 billion in FY24. Consequently, earnings per share (EPS) improved to Rs 1.37, compared to a loss per share of Rs 2.95 last year.

The company’s gross turnover for FY25 stood at Rs 85.38 billion, reflecting a modest 1% increase from Rs 84.50 billion in the previous year. After accounting for sales tax and discounts of Rs 7.44 billion, net turnover was Rs 77.94 billion, remaining nearly flat year-on-year.

Cost of sales decreased by 6.7% to Rs 66.53 billion, leading to a gross profit of Rs 11.41 billion, a 69% increase from Rs 6.75 billion in FY24. Gross profit margin improved to 14.6% from 8.2% last year.

The company reported a 7% decline in selling and distribution expenses, which totaled Rs 2.23 billion, and a slight decrease of 7.8% in administrative expenses to Rs 1.27 billion. However, other operating expenses surged to Rs 864 million from Rs 16 million last year, reflecting a substantial increase.

Other income more than doubled to Rs 2.80 billion, contributing to a 118% year-on-year increase in operating profit, which reached Rs 9.89 billion compared to Rs 4.54 billion in FY24. Finance costs were reduced by 5.6% to Rs 7.02 billion, allowing the company to post a profit before levies and taxation of Rs 2.86 billion, reversing the loss of Rs 2.90 billion from the previous year.

After accounting for levies of Rs 705 million and taxation of Rs 851 million (compared to Rs 35 million last year), Unity Foods posted a net profit of Rs 1.31 billion from continuing operations, a significant recovery from the loss of Rs 3.72 billion in FY24. The company also recorded a Rs 326 million profit from discontinued operations, bringing the total net profit for FY25 to Rs 1.63 billion.
