Sindh approves NDC 3.0 policy, targets 50% emissions reduction by 2030

The Sindh government has officially approved the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0 policy, marking a significant step toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with global climate commitments. 

Chief Minister’s Adviser on Environment, Dost Rahimoon, announced that the province aims to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 under the Paris Climate Agreement framework.

The province will finance 15% of the emissions reduction efforts through provincial resources, while 35% is expected to come from international cooperation and funding. Environment Secretary Zubair Channa highlighted the comprehensive approach outlined in the policy, which includes reforms in energy, transport, agriculture, and waste management sectors.

Key initiatives under the NDC 3.0 include expanding the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, phasing out diesel-powered public buses, promoting electric vehicles, and leading afforestation drives. The province also plans to restore mangrove forests along the coast and implement significant waste management reforms, such as recycling and composting. 

Furthermore, wastewater treatment and groundwater recharge projects will be introduced to support sustainable water management across urban and agricultural areas.
