PM directs authorities to engage global experts for privatisation of SOEs

Privatisation of 15 out of 24 SOEs reviewed, with focus on inactive and loss-making entities

ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday directed authorities to engage globally renowned experts for the privatisation of proposed state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Chairing a progress review meeting on the privatisation process, the prime minister emphasised that the national interest and future capacity building of institutions should guide the process.

The meeting was briefed on the privatisation progress of 15 out of 24 government entities. PM Sharif instructed that the privatisation of inactive and loss-making entities be expedited, without delays caused by administrative or institutional hurdles.

He reiterated that delays in the process would not be tolerated and stated that he would personally oversee the privatisation efforts, with regular meetings scheduled to monitor progress.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division Ahad Cheema, Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Kayani, and other relevant officials.
