The Balochistan provincial cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, has granted industry status to the Mines and Minerals sector. The move is expected to attract investment, stimulate mineral development, and create new employment opportunities across the province.
The cabinet also revised powers related to the imposition of Section 144, enabling Deputy Commissioners to enforce the section for 30 days, Commissioners for 60 days, and the Additional Chief Secretary (Home) for 90 days. This change is intended to streamline administrative powers and enhance law enforcement efficiency.
The cabinet also approved the expansion of the Mangrove Forest Area along Balochistan’s coast to improve ecological protection and combat climate change effects.
In a significant move for women’s safety, the cabinet approved the creation of Anti-Sexual Crimes Units to investigate cases of abuse and a Special Women’s Protection Force to assist victims of harassment with immediate support and legal services.
To promote sustainable growth in the fisheries sector, the cabinet formed a committee to finalize recommendations for the Balochistan Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Bill. The cabinet also approved the Balochistan Control of Narcotics Substances Bill 2025 to address drug trafficking and social reforms.
Funds were also approved for the implementation of the Youth Policy, with Chief Minister Bugti congratulating officials for organizing successful events such as the National Youth Summit and the Cultural and Tourism Festival in Islamabad.
Other notable decisions included the approval of the Balochistan Land Lease Policy 2025 to ensure transparent and sustainable land use and the creation of a Journalists’ Housing Colony for Gwadar Press Club members.
Chief Minister Bugti concluded the session by reaffirming his government’s commitment to public welfare, transparent governance, and institutional reforms, aiming to make Balochistan economically stable, peaceful, and empowered.
