PM Shehbaz orders phased crackdown on tax evasion

Tobacco, tiles and other sectors targeted as part of accelerated tax reform push

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday directed a phased elimination of tax evasion, focusing on tobacco, tiles and other industries.

The premier, during a Federal Board of Revenue review, called for stronger administrative and institutional measures and was briefed on the first phase of tariff reforms.

An official statement said he urged faster implementation of reforms to tackle economic challenges and achieve Sustainable Development Goals.

Shehbaz Sharif also commended FBR and Finance teams for progress so far and stressed that continued reform execution would support economic stability.
