ISLAMABAD: The export of leather goods from Pakistan increased by 7.99 per cent during first 11 months of the fiscal year 2017-18 compared to same period of last year.
The exports during the period under review rose to $478.85 million in July-May (2017-18) as compared to the exports worth of $443.43 million in the same period of the previous year.
According to data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Thursday, export of leather garments also rose by 2.05 per cent to $269.128 million in July-May (2017-18) compared to the export of $263.7 million in July-May (2016-17).
Similarly, leather gloves’ export also surged by 17.64 per cent as it soared to $198.18 million during the corresponding period from $168.46 million in the same period of the previous year.
The leather footwear export during the period under review was recorded at $86.18 million compared to the export worth of $74.03 million in the first 11 months of previous year, thus showing an increase of 16.4 per cent.
On a yearly and monthly basis, the leather manufacturers’ export in May 2018 increased by 21.6 per cent and 1.22 per cent when compared with the export during May 2017 and April 2018 respectively.
The leather manufacturers’ exports rose from $36 million in May 2017 and $43.3 million in April 2018 to $43.84 million in May this year.
Leather garments’ export in May also witnessed an increase of 15 per cent and 10.42 per cent when compared with the export during May 2017 and April 2018 respectively.
The export increased from $21.7 million in May 2017 and $22.6 million in April 2018 to $25 million in May this year.
The overall exports from the country witnessed an increase of 15.28 per cent during first eleven months of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
The exports from the country during July-May (2017-18) stood at $21.346 billion against the exports of $18.516 billion in July-May (2016-17), showing growth of 15.28 per cent.
On year-on-year (YOY) basis, the exports from the country surged by 32.35 per cent during the month of May 2018 against the exports of May 2017.
The exports during May 2018 were recorded at $2.144 billion compared to the exports of $1.620 billion in May 2017, the PBS data revealed.
On month-on-month (MOM) basis, the exports from the country increased by 0.52 per cent during the month of May 2018 when compared to the exports of $2.133 billion in April 2018.
