Rupee breaks downward slide, gains 94 paisas against US dollar

The Pakistani rupee broke a five-day losing streak on Thursday, gaining 0.56 per cent against the US dollar in the inter-bank market, an increase that comes after the currency registered fresh lows in the past two days.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the local currency closed at Rs168.18 on Thursday against the greenback, recording a gain of 94 paisas or 0.56 per cent.

On Wednesday, the local currency continued its slide against the greenback, touching a new all-time low for the second straight day at 169.5 in the interbank market at the onset of trading session.

The currency has maintained the downturn since touching a 22-month high of Rs152.27 on May 14, losing a cumulative 9.4pc or Rs15.91 in the past four months.
