SBP launches first research agenda for 2026-2029

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched its first Research Agenda for 2026-2029, setting out the central bank’s research priorities for monetary policy, financial regulation and economic development.

The three-year framework is designed to strengthen the analytical basis of SBP’s policymaking and regulatory decisions in line with its statutory objectives and SBP Vision 2028.

The central bank said the agenda had been developed against a backdrop of rapid technological change, recurring supply shocks, climate-related risks and continuing structural challenges in the domestic and global economy.

The research programme is organised around three main themes: inflation dynamics and monetary policy; financial-sector deepening, soundness and efficiency; and structural transformation and economic development.

Research conducted under these themes will seek to address existing knowledge gaps and support evidence-based macroeconomic policymaking over the next three years.

SBP said collaboration and knowledge-sharing would form an important part of the programme as economic and financial-sector challenges continued to evolve.

The central bank plans to work with academics, policy researchers, government institutions and other external stakeholders at both individual and institutional levels while undertaking research identified in the agenda.
