KE’s industrial power consumption hits record 6.08bn units in FY26

K-Electric’s industrial electricity consumption reached a record 6.08 billion units in fiscal year 2025-26 (FY26), marking a 20% year-on-year increase as Pakistan’s economy expanded by 3.7%.

According to K-Electric, industrial consumers used 5.04 billion units of electricity in FY25. The latest figure surpasses the previous record of 5.84 billion units registered in FY22, when the country’s GDP growth exceeded 6%.

Chief Executive Syed Muhammad Taha said the utility has been providing uninterrupted, loadshedding-exempt electricity to industrial feeders since 2013 and remains committed to supporting industrial growth through reliable and sustainable power supply.

KE’s industrial feeders serve manufacturing and industrial units across multiple zones equipped with 100% smart meters, allowing businesses to monitor electricity consumption in real time, he added.

The B3 category—covering industries with connected loads ranging from 501 kilowatts to 5,000 kilowatts—recorded the highest electricity consumption during FY26. This category includes major sectors such as cement, steel and textiles.

On a monthly basis, industrial electricity consumption peaked in June, followed by April, according to the utility.

K-Electric also expanded its industrial customer base during the year by energising 349 new industrial connections, while 273 existing consumers increased their sanctioned load. Together, these additions contributed 168 megawatts of new demand to the utility’s grid.

The utility noted that industrial electricity consumption had remained subdued after FY22 due to economic headwinds, but rebounded strongly in FY26 alongside improved economic activity.
