Pakistan awards highest-priced spot LNG cargo of 2026 to PetroChina

Pakistan has awarded its latest spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contract to PetroChina International after the company submitted the bid of $20.6999 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) for a 140,000-cubic-metre cargo.

According to official sources, Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) received two bids after issuing the tender on July 14 for a single 140,000-cubic-metre LNG cargo.

PetroChina International emerged as the lowest bidder with an offer of $20.6999 per MMBtu, while BP Singapore submitted the second-lowest bid at $21.3737 per MMBtu.

Both bids met the technical and commercial requirements before the financial evaluation, following which PLL awarded the contract to PetroChina International.

The cargo is scheduled to arrive on July 21-22 and will be Pakistan's sixth spot LNG purchase through competitive bidding since late February.

It is also the most expensive spot LNG cargo bought during this period, reflecting continued volatility in global LNG prices amid regional geopolitical tensions.
