It is pertinent to mention that the new tariffs are expected to impact consumers significantly, particularly those in the lower consumption brackets. The recent hike in power tariffs will significantly impact electricity consumers, particularly those in the protected and unprotected categories.
For the protected category, using 1-100 units per month, the tariff has increased by 51 percent, raising their cost from Rs 7.74 to Rs 11.69 per unit.
Meanwhile, unprotected consumers
using the same amount will face a 43 percent increase, with their tariff rising from Rs 16.48 to Rs 23.59 per unit. This substantial increase will place a heavy financial burden on low and middle-income
