Meta and PTA launch ‘Is This Legit?’ campaign to raise awareness about online scams in Pakistan

Initiative educates users on seven common scam types through interactive digital content

Meta, in partnership with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and educational platform EYEYAH!, has launched a social awareness campaign titled “Is This Legit?” to help users in Pakistan identify and avoid online scams.

The campaign is part of a broader Asia-Pacific (APAC) initiative covering over 15 countries, aimed at promoting safer digital practices. It highlights seven common types of scams — romance, shopping, impersonation, investment, job, account hacking, and messaging — using interactive and gamified content to teach users how to spot warning signs and red flags.

Chairman PTA, Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, praised the collaboration, reaffirming PTA’s commitment to ensuring a secure and informed digital environment. He said the campaign continues the joint efforts of PTA and Meta to strengthen digital literacy and protect users from online fraud.

Dania Mukhtar, Head of Public Policy at Meta Pakistan, said the company remains committed to removing scammers from its platforms but noted that fraudsters continuously evolve their tactics across multiple apps. “Through this campaign, we aim to help people in Pakistan identify red flags in an interactive and engaging way, empowering them to stay safe from scams,” she stated, thanking the PTA for its support in expanding the campaign’s reach.

Meta and PTA said they will continue working together to enhance digital safety, raise awareness, and build a secure online ecosystem for Pakistani users.
