‘Govt committed to timely completion of WB-funded projects’

ISLAMABAD: Planning Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, while appreciating the contribution of World Bank in the socio-economic development of Pakistan, has said the incumbent government is focused on the timely completion of various projects being funded by the World Bank.

The minister was talking WB Country Director for Pakistan Patchamuthu Illangovan in Islamabad on Friday. Planning Secretary Zafar Hasan and senior officials of the ministry were also present on the occasion.

During the meeting, various WB projects, related to infrastructure, clean drinking water, drainage and agriculture, came under discussion. Referring to K4 and S3 projects, the minister said that the provision of clean drinking water and improvement in the drainage system of Karachi were among the top priorities of the government.

He stated that Karachi was a metropolitan city and the incumbent government would undertake all possible measures for its development.

Infrastructure projects, including Karachi Urban Mobility Project (Yellow Bus Rapid Transit Corridor), construction of Peshawar-Torkham Motorway Project (47.55km) and economic development of areas adjoining to the motorway, were also deliberated upon in the meeting.

Illangovan said that the World Bank would continue to contribute to the development of Pakistan.

  1. Planning ministry must monitor and ensure that all on going/new projects be completed within scheduled time and allocated funds.
