PM calls for review of subsidies to ensure transparency

PM says Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programmes database should be used to ensure subsidies reach deserving people

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Tuesday directed the adviser to the PM on finance and revenue affairs to scrutinise and review subsidies being provided by the government and provide comprehensive recommendations to enhance their effectiveness.

While chairing a meeting of a think-tank pertaining to Islamabad’s economy, the PM stressed the need to review subsidies being provided by the government in order to ensure transparency and that their benefits reach the maximum number of people.

He said that the subsidies given by the government are aimed at providing relief and assistance to poor and deserving people.

The PM further advised that Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme’s database should be used to provide electricity, gas, utility stores, and other subsidies to the needy people.
