IHC suspends PM’s orders on OGRA member’s appointment

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended the orders of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the appointment of member oil OGRA.

A single member bench comprising of Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddique took up the hearing of the case regarding the appointment of member oil OGRA on Friday, filed by a former OGRA officer Yasin against the government.

According to the details of the case, Nawaz’s government had advertised the post of member oil OGRA in the newspapers, following the retirement of former member oil Sabir. Several people with required skill-set of the field had filed their applications for the appointment on this post.

The board short-listed 3 candidates including Gulam Yasin, Zain Ul Abideen, and Abdul Malik and sent the summary to PM Nawaz Sharif.

The PM, instead of appointing someone from the selected candidates, gave orders to Petroleum ministry for advertising the post again in newspapers.

Yasin, a former officer of OGRA and one of the three selected candidates by the board challenged PM’s orders in the court.

The court has directed the government not to implement PM’s orders and appoint one among the three persons selected by the board as member oil OGRA.

The IHC has also restrained the ministry of petroleum from advertising the post of member oil afresh and ordered that one of the 3 member panel who got short-listed be appointed as member oil OGRA.
