Dr. Miftah Ismail’s tweet exposes misstatement regarding PSX all-time high

LAHORE: Adviser to Prime Minister on Revenue, Finance and Economic Affairs Dr Miftah Ismail’s official twitter account yesterday in a tweet misstated the highest amount the KSE-100 index ever reached by stating it crossed over 55,000 points during the time of ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

In a response to a tweet from Fe’reeha Idrees, Dr. Miftah Ismail stated:

But in reality, the highest ever level attained by the KSE-100 Index was on the 24th of May when it touched an intra-day high of 52876.46 points on news of Pakistan’s re-inclusion into the MSCI Emerging Market Index.

It was an overstatement of over 2200 points by Dr Ismail, and he should exercise care while sharing such extrapolated figures on public forums.

Those responding to Mr. Ismail’s tweet had this to say:

It seems the advisor to Prime Minister on Revenue, Finance and Economic Affairs would be advised in future to get his facts and figures right, since his position demands responsibility and prudence.
