Flour mills take back countrywide strike call

The All Pakistan Flour Mills Association (APFMA) on Tuesday withdrew its countrywide strike call after the elimination of 17pc GST on various products of wheat.

The notification of 17pc GST elimination on wheat was issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), a private media house reported.

Earlier, the All Pakistan Flour Mills Association (APFMA) had announced to observe a countrywide strike on Wednesday (tomorrow) against the imposition of 17pc sales tax on various products of wheat.

“The millers’ association will halt the supply of flour to all mills on Wednesday,” the APFMA chairman had asserted, adding that the government’s imposition of sales tax on wheat will increase the price of flour bag to exorbitant levels.

“The GST on the wheat will make our businesses unviable that’s why we have decided to go on strike against all these steps taken by the government in the budget for 2019-20,” he had maintained.
