Sindh govt orders disbursement of salaries among labourers by March 31

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Sunday issued a directive to the factories and other private entities operating in the province to disburse salaries to their employees by March 31.

Invoking Section 3 of the Sindh Payment of Wages Act 2015, the Sindh Labour and Human Resource Department advised all employers/owners/occupiers of the establishments and responsible persons to disburse salaries to all kinds of workers, including permanent, contractual, and daily wagers.

The department also notified the establishment of “Emergency Cell” to address grievances and issues of employees.

The directive came at a time when the coronavirus crisis is deepening in the province and the country as 33 new virus cases of local transmission were confirmed in Karachi earlier in day, taking Sindh’s tally of Covid-19 patients to 502.

The virus-triggered lockdown has left the entire business and industrial chain shut, leaving hundreds of thousands of labourers affected.
