FBR’s direct tax collection rises 29.4% to Rs632.7 billion in H1 FY2024-25

Sales tax, federal excise duty, and customs duties also see notable growth in first half of fiscal year 2024-25.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reported a 29.4% increase in direct tax collection during the first six months of fiscal year 2024-25, amounting to Rs632.7 billion compared to the same period last year. 

According to FBR’s biannual review for the period July-December 2024-25, the collection of direct taxes saw significant growth, with December 2024 alone witnessing a 36.1% increase.

In addition to direct taxes, overall sales tax collection rose by 25.3%, amounting to Rs382.9 billion. Sales tax from imports grew by 16.8%, while domestic sales tax saw a sharper increase of 38.6%. December 2024 alone saw a 33.3% increase in sales tax collection, with imports contributing to a 30.1% rise and domestic sales tax growing by 38.3%.

Federal excise duty (FED) collection also showed robust growth, increasing by 31.0%, or Rs82.0 billion, during the first half of the fiscal year. In December 2024, FED collection surged by 61.3% compared to the same month in the previous fiscal year.

Similarly, customs duty collection increased by 10.7%, totaling Rs58.0 billion during July-December 2024-25. The customs duty collection for December 2024 grew by 22.7% compared to the same month last year.
