Work progresses on hydropower projects in Swat district, 330 MW electricity expected

Transmission line project to provide cheap electricity to industrial sector

Swat district’s hydropower resources in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being developed as part of three flagship energy projects set to produce 330 MW of electricity over the next two years. Work is also underway on laying a 40-kilometer-long transmission line along the Swat corridor, which is expected to be completed by next year, providing cheap electricity to the province’s industrial sector.

Secretary of Energy and Power Muhammad Zubair Khan expressed these views during a visit to the ongoing hydropower projects in Swat, including the 84 MW Matiltan, 88 MW Gabral Kalam, and 36.6 MW Daral Khor Hydropower Plant, as well as the 132/220 kW transmission line project. Khan was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan and Chief Executive of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PEDO) Habibullah.

During his visit, Khan reviewed the ongoing construction work and progress on the projects. He also addressed public complaints regarding water supply issues and directed officials to make the necessary arrangements. Furthermore, employees at the Gorkin Matiltan project raised concerns about non-payment of salaries. Khan issued orders for the immediate settlement of arrears.

In addition, Khan visited the under-construction staff colony at the Gabral Kalam Power Project and directed the team to expedite the work to ensure timely completion. He also inspected the Gorkin Matiltan transmission line system and the flood-affected Daral Khor power plant in Bahrain.

Khan instructed the Assistant Commissioner Bahrain to find immediate solutions to any public issues in order to remove obstacles in the construction process and ensure that the projects are completed on schedule.
