NAB prepares reference against Aleem Khan on assets exceeding Rs1.4bn

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) here has prepared a reference against Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan in a case of assets beyond means which has also been sent to the NAB headquarters for approval, Profit learnt on Thursday.

An official of Lahore NAB informed this scribe that the accountability watchdog’s chairman had visited the city a day earlier and had also met investigation teams during which the combined investigation team (CIT) had obtained his verbal approval to prepare the reference against Aleem Khan and send it to the headquarters.

The official further added that the reference prepared against Aleem Khan was for assets worth Rs1.4 billion more than his proven income.

“The reference also points out the valuable assets owned by Aleem, both within the country and abroad; the sources of which are still unknown,” he said.

The NAB official further revealed that during the investigation against Aleem Khan, evidence of manipulation through two of his alleged front-men Umar Farooq and Umair in Park View Housing Society has been obtained.

“Through these two frontmen, plots of 400 to 500 victims were transferred to a well-known housing society and illegal financial benefits were given to Aleem Khan,” the official said.

“According to NAB rules, in case of assets beyond means, apart from imprisonment, not only all the illegal assets of the accused are confiscated but also the accused can be fined accordingly,” official concluded.
