Declaring Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as an integral part of country’s fuel consumption, Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited, Managing Director Amjad Latif said that there is no other option instead of LNG as an alternative fuel.
Talking at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry here Tuesday, he said that situation took a positive turn after the arrival of LNG as it has brought down the production cost of power generation units.
Talking about taking control of unaccounted for gas, he said that gas losses have come down to 8 per cent from 12 per cent while further improvement would be witnessed with the passage of time.
He said that SNGPL started giving new gas connections and this process would be expedited after operationalisation of second terminal in August of this year.
The managing director said the company was currently selling1.8 BCFD and has saved a lot of money.
He said that the financial health of the company had also got strengthened as company’s share price has doubled in the stock market.
He informed the gathering that the task of laying 1,000 kilometers pipeline from Sawan to Lahore would be completed within stipulated time. Transmission, distribution, construction, and sales departments had shown better performance and attributed toward company’s success.
He said the company was adopting a new marketing vision that would help them to fulfill the new requirements of the market. The managing director informed that the company was supplying uninterrupted gas to the fertilizer industry, power houses, commercial and domestic consumers as per their demand.
Amjad Latif said the number of new applicants including those from housing societies was increasing but hoped that they would bridge the demand-supply gap by end of next year.
LCCI President Abdul Basit urged SNGPL to expedite the issuance of new GAS connection to the industry. He said that industrial connections should be re-shifted from temporary RLNG to the old Sui Gas as it has increased the industrial input cost.
He said that old tariffs should be applied on the revival of disconnected gas connections. He said that SNGPL should make all processes for industries easy.
