Domestic oil production rises by 3pc

Karachi: A research study from Topline Securities on Monday revealed that Pakistan’s oil production had recorded a 3pc increase during 2016-17 rising to 88,139 barrels per day.

A 10pc growth was recorded in oil production during June 2017 in comparison to last year, with output rising to 91,000bpd. As per the study, the country’s dominant players in the sector recorded a production increase of 9pc for OGDC and for POL and PPL it was 11pc.

In May, the Nashpa field which constitutes 26pc of the country’s overall oil production, had experienced a brief outage in May. Production of natural gas remained stagnant throughout 2016-17, due to reduction in outflow from existing fields.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and POL recorded a 5pc growth in gas production respectively in 2016-17, while OGDCL numbers in comparison remained unimpressive. For PPL, its gas production rise was sustained by the Kandhkot field, which constitutes 22pc of its total production.

POL similarly was helped by its Mardankhel field which contributed to increase in gas production and constitutes 8pc of its total production in the country.
