Singapore adjourns case over suspected Nvidia chip exports to China until Aug 22

Prosecutors says police needed more time to review documents and receive responses from overseas authorities

Singapore’s case against three men linked to the suspected illegal transfer of Nvidia AI chips to China has been adjourned until August 22.

The court granted the delay after prosecutors said police needed more time to review documents and receive responses from overseas authorities.

The three men — Singaporeans Aaron Woon Guo Jie, 41, and Alan Wei Zhaolun, 49, and Chinese national Li Ming, 51 — were earlier charged with making false statements to server suppliers about the end users of equipment bought in 2023 and 2024.

Singapore’s Home Affairs Minister said in March that the servers involved in the case may contain Nvidia chips. Authorities began investigating after receiving an anonymous tip and later determined the equipment was supplied by Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer to Singapore-based firms.

The servers were sent to Malaysia, though it is unclear if Malaysia was the final destination. The investigation is part of a broader case involving 22 people and companies suspected of providing false information during export transactions.

The U.S. banned the export of Nvidia’s high-end chips to China in 2022 over national security concerns. A senior U.S. official has said that AI company DeepSeek, which is reportedly tied to the case, supports China’s military and intelligence efforts.

Singapore was Nvidia’s second-largest market after the U.S. in its latest fiscal year, accounting for 18% of revenue, according to a February filing. Actual shipments to Singapore, however, made up less than 2% of total sales, as the country is often used as a base for invoicing to other destinations.
