Lesco uncovers Rs26.3 million electricity theft at famous hotel in Lahore

Illegal reprogramming of meters leads to significant loss, investigation and legal action underway

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) has uncovered electricity theft worth Rs26.3 million at a well-known hotel in the city, according to news reports.

During an inspection, Lesco checked three meters installed at the hotel and found that the hotel management had illegally reprogrammed the meters, resulting in unauthorised electricity usage.

Further investigation revealed that the meters’ KWh readings had been frozen since March 2023, while the MDi KW data was continuously reported, and billing was carried out based on these readings. As a result, Lesco suffered a financial loss of Rs26.3 million.

All meters involved in the incident were seized by Lesco officials, and a case has been registered. Further legal actions are ongoing.
