Initiative aims to enhance public safety and law enforcement capabilities in port city

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi to initiate the Gwadar Safe City project, a strategic move to bolster security infrastructure in the port city.

During a meeting with the Prime Minister, Naqvi also briefed him on the newly developed policy for Pakistani pilgrims visiting holy sites in Iran and Iraq. In light of this, the Prime Minister directed the Minister for Aviation to arrange special flights for the devotees.

Additionally, the Interior Minister provided an update on the law and order situation in Balochistan.

Gwadar Safe City project, approved after nearly a decade of planning, is valued at Rs4.96 billion and is co-funded by the federal and provincial governments under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) .

The initiative aims to enhance public safety through the installation of CCTV cameras and real-time monitoring systems across key strategic locations. This will assist law enforcement agencies in detecting and investigating crimes, thereby improving the overall security environment for residents and foreign nationals in the region .

The Gwadar Safe City project is expected to be completed by June 2026, with approximately 30% of the work already completed. The initiative is part of a broader effort to develop Gwadar as a secure and economically vibrant hub, aligning with the objectives of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In a separate development, the Prime Minister has also instructed the Minister for Aviation to arrange special flights for Pakistani pilgrims traveling to holy sites in Iran and Iraq. This directive follows a briefing by Minister Naqvi on the new policy for pilgrims, aimed at facilitating their travel during the upcoming religious seasons.

Additionally, the law and order situation in Balochistan was discussed during the meeting, with a focus on measures to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain peace in the province.
