Punjab governor calls for cotton, mango exports enhancement to boost economy

MULTAN: Punjab governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana, urged farmers and growers on Wednesday to promote cotton and mango exports which would be a boost for country’s economy.

He said that export of cotton was declining due to sugar mills establishment and we have to promote it for boosting the national economy.

Punjab governor was addressing a meeting at Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Agriculture (MNSUA) to review its developmental projects here.

Pakistan is an agrarian country and agriculture is its backbone, Rajwana said and added that research-based quality education was the crying need of the hour.

He informed that challenges and opportunities went side by side and the varsity had faced the challenges in the past courageously.

Leaders are job providers, not job seekers, the governor said adding that research-based knowledge should be transferred to students.

He ensured his full support to resolve issues faced by the varsity saying that though MNSUA was in its teething stage, he hopes that its ongoing projects would be accomplished in stipulated time.

For MNSUA Khanewal campus, he directed officials concerned to extend all possible help to varsity administration for its establishment.

Rajwana hailed MNSUA VC, Dr Asif Ali and his team efforts for fast pace development of the varsity.

He informed that it was his maiden visit to MNSUA as chancellor and was duty bound to solve its issues as he was the son of the soil.

Earlier, briefing the meeting, MNSUA VC, Dr Asif Ali shed light on different ongoing projects of the varsity including the signing of MoUs with different international varsities for the betterment of agriculture sector in Pakistan.

He said that they were planting fruit and shady trees at the new campus to enhance the beauty of the campus adding that academic block, faculty and boys and girls hostels besides residential colony were underway.

Among others, DC Nasir Chatta, Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Dean Dr Ishtiaq Ahmad Rajwana, Social Sciences Dean Dr Irfan Baig, Dr Zulfiqar, Dr Shafqat Saeed, Dr Asif Raza, M Ali Sargana attended the meeting.

Later, Punjab governor visited the under construction buildings of MNSUA along with VC.
